Educational process at the Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering

The Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering is focused on training specialists of the Faculty of Electrical Power Engineering and Automation and 17 other units of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Annually, several thousand students study at the department, and they attend more than 10 courses.

To ensure the quality of the educational process, the department has developed specialized courses separately for students of power profile, instrumental profile, medical engineering profile, and students studying computer science.

Basic disciplines of the department: theoretical fundamentals of electrical engineering; electrical engineering; electrical engineering and electronics; electrical engineering and electromechanics; electronics and circuits; industrial electronics. All disciplines are provided with educational and methodical literature.

Practical and research training of students at the Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering is carried out in 8 laboratories. Created a distance course designed methodological materials for practical and laboratory classes in computer classes of other departments. There are methodological and scientific seminars at the department. Every year for students of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute competitions are held on theoretical fundamentals of electrical engineering and general electrical engineering.

The professors of the department trains candidates and doctors of technical sciences in the specialties: 05.09.05 (Theoretical Electrical Engineering), 09.05.03 (Electrotechnical Complexes and Systems) and 05.09.12 (Semiconductor Converters).

Course "Theoretical Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering"

The course provides an in-depth study of electromagnetic processes occurring in various electrotechnical devices and sets out the main pathways for solving the problems posed by specialized electrotechnical disciplines. Mastering the educational material will help students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the physical features and laws that are subject to electromagnetic phenomena and processes that accompany the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, energy processes in electrical circuits, analytical and numerical calculation methods. There are three modules to address a wide range of subjects that study the subject of "Theoretical Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering":

  • Module I - “Conventional modes of linear electric circuits with lumped parameters”
  • Module II - “Transients in linear electric circles with lumped parameters” and “Nonlinear electric and magnetic circuits”
  • Module III - "Circuits with Distributed Parameters" and "Electromagnetic Field Theory"

Course "Electrical Engineering"

The course involves studying the basics of electromagnetic theory. Much attention is paid to the study of established and transient processes in linear electric circuits, calculation of single-phase circuits under the action of sources of non-sinusoidal voltage and analysis of processes in three-phase electric circuits. Mastering the educational material will help students to develop the ability to analyze the steady and transient modes of operation of linear electric circuits with lumped parameters.

Course "Electrical Engineering and Electronics"

An important feature of the proposed course is the creation of an information base for students that would allow them to make rational choices method of calculating the electric circuit, depending on its structure and conditions of the problem, rationalize the chosen method with the use of modern tools computing, and evaluate the results of the calculation. The course is aimed at providing students with knowledge about the processes in semiconductors, on the basis of which semiconductor devices are developed using diodes, transistors, thyristors, etc., the principles of action of generators and amplifiers devices as well as conversion devices. Mastering the course material will help students develop practical application skills methods of modeling and calculation of processes in technical devices whose principle of action is based on the use of electromagnetic phenomena.

Course "Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics"

The course provides the study of the basics of electromagnetic theory and general principles of electromechanical energy conversion, their practical use for the design and operation of electric machines. Mastering the course material will help students gain a holistic view on the creation and improvement of power and information devices for the mutual conversion of electrical and mechanical energy, electrical, contact and contactless apparatus for switching electrical circuits and controlling energy flows.

Course "Industrial Electronics"

The course aims to study the principles of operation, methods of calculation and methods of analysis of electronic devices. Mastering educational material will help students to gain knowledge about the physical fundamentals and principles of operation of semiconductor devices, principles of operation and circuit design implementation of basic devices of analog and digital information electronics of secondary power sources.
